Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association (AFCEA)

Founded in 1946, AFCEA’s roots trace back to the American Civil War. Today, AFCEA serves as a bridge between government requirements and industry capabilities, representing the top government, industry, and military professionals in the fields of information technology, communications, and intelligence. AFCEA, a non-profit international association, is dedicated to supporting global security by providing an ethical environment that encourages a close cooperative relationship among civil government agencies, the military and industry.

Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation

The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation is the largest independent grantmaking foundation focused exclusively on the Washington Metropolitan area. The Foundation is the legacy of Morris Cafritz, one of Washington’s leading commercial and residential real estate builders from the early 1920’s to the mid-1960s. An outstanding civic leader known for his generosity, he established the Foundation in 1948. His wife, Gwendolyn, one of Washington’s leading hostesses in the post World War II years, was President of the Foundation from 1964 to 1988. Since 1970, awards totaling more than $261million have been granted. In the last 10 years, 3,124 grants have been made, totaling over $136 million. Community Services and Education projects lead the list, followed by Arts and Humanities and Healthcare.

The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia is the premier community foundation serving Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties as well as the City of Alexandria, and works to nurture philanthropy and strengthen our community by encouraging community endowments, addressing the region’s needs, and providing leadership.

Commonweal Foundation

The Commonweal Foundation supports educational programs and projects assisting disadvantaged youth. The Foundation focuses on secondary and, to a lesser extent, elementary education. The Foundation also considers grants for educational research and, to a limited extent, health care.

Toyota U.S.A. Foundation

For the past 20 years, the Toyota U.S.A Foundation has funded K-12 educational programs that focus on the areas of math and science. Currently, the Foundation provides $2 million a year in support of various programs and partner with some of America’s leading organizations and institutions. In 2008 The Toyota U.S.A. Foundation provided ReSET with a grant for a three year program for hands-on environmental science education.

United Way of the National Capital Area (UWNCA)

The United Way of the National Capital Area (UWNCA) leads an annual program including over 3200 employee-giving campaigns to raise funds for charities. Donors who would like to direct funds to Retired Scientists, Engineers and Technicians should use designation number 9341.
